August, in the middle of summer, we are traveling to Trondheim. We simply wanted to visit the city, explore the nature, and the fishing opportunities. The Viking King Olav Tryggvason founded the city in 997. It is located in Trøndelag, central Norway. Trondheim is a centre for higher education and is home to the largest university in the country.
Also, the city is a major hub for railways in Norway.
Historic Trondheim
One of the biggest attractions there is Nidaros Cathedral. It was built between 1070 and 1300. It is the most central church in Norway. The Constitution of 1814 stipulates that it should be the coronation church for the regent of Norway.
That is no longer the case, but since 1958, it has been used for the velsignelse of royal individuals. In the city are living around 212,000 people.
Trondheim is full of fascinating history and landmarks! We really enjoyed the visit! 🏰🌟
In the fjord, the rivers Gaula, Stjørdalselva, and Nidelv flow into it.
Overall, Trondheim is an impressive city with an incredible atmosphere, nature, and lots of activities.
Fishing opportunities
From Oslo to Trondheim, there are several ways to get there. We chose to travel through E6 and National Highway 3, specifically along the Orkla River. On the way back, we went through Røros and along the Gaula River. The goal was to explore nature and, of course, fishing. By the way, these are some of the best rivers for fishing!
Some call them the kingdom of salmon.
I had never seen so many fishermen before either!
Passing through many remarkable landscapes, waterfalls, and tributaries rich in fish, mainly trout, we were able to get up close and explore the fishing opportunities and locations.
That was our goal too, with the intention of returning, but this time for fishing adventures. We visited a fishing spot/ center where you can rent or buy fishing gear to go fishing. We talked to fishermen and people directly involved in it.
The best season for salmon fishing is in early June when the season starts. But of course, it’s still quite exciting until the end of August. We traveled and stopped at many places to capture breathtaking views.
We tried to include more photos and hope to immerse you in the atmosphere and experience. Visit Trondheim and the rivers to enjoy real emotions.
Expect us soon with these experiences. And in another blog, we will introduce you to some impressive places we passed through.
Thank you for visiting Norway fishing & nature!
We hope to see you again soon!
