Dear friends,
In this post we are going to tell you an exciting story about our fishing adventures and not just one cod on the hook! Enjoy your time with Norway fishing & nature!
Time for outing- fishing again!
One autumn evening, Sara and I, we went on one more fishing tour. We had chosen an area between Lillesand and Høvåg, where a small river infused. The weather was quiet and very pleasant. We found a nice place for fishing and to enjoy the beautiful nature. By a small and narrow path, we reached a wonderful bay.
The sea which attracts
We got to the small promontory of the bay on the right side because there we had seen a very convenient for our intentions rock, almost flat and about 10 meters wide. We could see the seabed in front of us, which was a continuation of the rock we had set foot on. The depth gradually increased and at about 1.5 m in front of us it became much deeper.
Equipment
For a start, we took a position about 5- 6 meters distance from each other and started throwing. I used a two-piece Shimano stick 15-45g, 9 feet and a Penn Conflict II 2500 reel. Sarah was with a Shimano 4 pcs., 14- 28 g, 9 feet and Abu Garcia Sorön STX40 reel. The baits we use were small fish of different colours in the range of 20 to 30 g.
Good catch always raises mood
After half an hour of trying, not much happened except for a few attempts for fishing bite, so we decided to have a rest for a cup of hot coffee from the thermos. After that, we continued to try our luck.
Cod on the hook
Suddenly, during one of my throws, on about 3 meters in front of me, I felt a hit, but nothing caught. So, I threw in the same direction again, very excited and ambitious. After that I began to roll up slowly. Just a meter from me it hit hard, and a fish got hooked.
Just 10 minutes later, Sara caught something big, and she could barely hold the rod. Therefore, carefully loosening the advance and tight fiber she managed to tire the fish after a while. Then she began to wind the cord more boldly. Her fishing rod was quite bent under the weight. I proceeded slowly with dip net and managed to catch the fish. It was a very large cod, 55 cm long and about 3 kg. Thus, we already had not just one cod on the hook, but two large, wonderful fish. Great diner!
We kept throwing for a while and as a result I caught one more cod. However, it was below the allowed size, so we carefully returned it to the sea.
By the end of the evening, Sara managed to catch one pollock as well, about 1.3kg.
Good to know
What is specific about the cod is that this type of fish approaches the shore in the evening to eat and then it almost always bites. Then, during the day, it retreats deeper into the water. This is a wonderful type of fish but remember the rules. If the cod is shorter than 40 cm, you must release it back to grow up. It can reach up to 180 cm and weighs up to 50 kg.
Thank you for visiting Norway fishing & nature!
We hope to see you again soon!
