The Lake
The beautiful lake called Longumvannet lies actually not so far from the place I live.
It stretches along the western side of Arendal, right next to Road 18. Although the lake is privately owned, the owners don’t need a fishing license, so you can fish freely! Here, you can catch pike (Gjedde), perch (Abbor), eels (Ål), and bream (Sudre). The largest pike caught here weighed a whopping 27 kg! But the other fish species are also of impressive size. In recent years, Agder Sportfiskere has been organizing exciting pike and perch competitions right here!
The water stretches for about 5 km in length. Longumvannet is absolutely gorgeous in the summer. If you’re out in a boat, the stunning scenery will amaze you with its peacefulness and tranquility.
Тrying your luck
One summer day, my friend and I decided to try our luck. We headed out onto the lake in a boat, casting our lines while drifting through the breathtaking scenery. And we covered nearly the entire lake. There were not many other fishermen along the way. But after 4 hours, we hadn’t caught a thing.
Starting to bite
Toward the end of the day, we decided to try one last spot. It wasn’t as warm by then, and just in front of a rock, something struck! I had my friend circle the spot a few times. We felt the bite each time. Finally, we hooked a magnificent perch!
We kept going and soon realized that the fish were starting to bite! Not long after, we anchored the boat in a small, beautiful cove surrounded by tall grass. On my second cast, I caught a beautiful 2.5 kg pike. After a long day, we were satisfied to have reached our goal! We discovered that evening is the best time for fishing. As the sun begins to set, it’s as if the lake truly comes to life!
It was a fantastic day. The best part is that such a wonderful place is so close to home. It’s not just for fishing but also for boating. You can also enjoy walking along the lakeshore, where you can fish as well. If you’re ever in Arendal or nearby, don’t miss the chance to visit this stunning lake!
Thank you for visiting Norway fishing & nature!
We hope to see you again soon!
