Learn more about the past of this magical place and its history with pirates!
Dear friends,
In our previous post we introduced you one exciting fishing trip opportunity on the most southern part of Norway, nearby city Mandal.
Today we would like to tell you more about the beautiful places and other fishing opportunities in the surrounding area. After visiting of Tredge Ferie, we took the coastal road Tregdeveien in direction of Kristiansand. After about 5,4 km there is a parking lot on the right side.
The place’s name is Selvåg, and it is marked as a Special Outdoor Area from the State. Detailed guiding map will help you in your walk here.
Area offers wonderful places for rest. Wooden tables and benches, grill and toilets are at your disposal.
The wildlife here is rich and varied. It is especially known for a large elk and deer herd.
The bird life is described by ornithologists as unique. Especially in this respect are species that are associated with water.
The fjord is rich in fish and the brackish water area attracts anglers. Here they gather in winter and spring to fish sea trout.
First, we took right direction to KALLSNESET.
After det we took left trail to STØMSNESET.
It took us to the last point of this direction with beautiful nature pictures and wonderful fishing places.
STRØMMEN
Here, on the top of the rock, an incredible view appeared in front of us. On this amazing place, where the sea like a narrow channel cuts into the land, one rock somehow strangely obstructs the water flow.
Below here is Strømmen, the narrow inlet to Harkmarksfjørden. According to tradition, Harkmark was an important place in the Middle Ages. Ships came from distant lands to deliver goods and buy salmon and lumber.
A legend tells.
Once in the 16th century, the place was threatened by a large pirate fleet. The Mayor Storenka Kari called then people together and made them overturn a large rock in Strømmen. The pirates were thrown out, but the merchant ships could not call at Harkmark either and fall apart as a trading place. The trade taken over by “De danske boder” and later became Mandal.
A rock in Strømmen was blasted away at the end of the 19th century.
Thank you for visiting Norway fishing & nature!
We hope to see you again soon!
