Hello friends! As we mentioned before, we are now in the second blog about Sirdal. This time we will talk about the river itself, which is very interesting. Sira is a river in Agder. It originates from the high mountains of Sirdal. It flows south through Sirdalen and passes through the two large lakes, Sirdalsvatnet and Lundevannet, before merging into the Aana Fjord at Aana-Sira. That’s what we can say about the river.
Where to fish
The first inflow of the river into Lake Sirdalsvatnet is near the village of Tonstad in Sirdal, and we have already talked about it and fishing there. But after the first lake, the river flows back into its channel and runs for about 4 km to the second mouth of the river, where it merges into Lake Lundevannet. I want to highlight specifically these 4 km between the two lakes. It is an incredible place for trout fishing.
Here we caught some of the largest fish weighing around 2,100 kg. The current of the river is strong in some places and calmer in others, but we can say that the fish are everywhere.
How to fish
You can fish with all kinds of bait, using worms or flies. I can say that the fish are active on everything. Here, we can let the bait move with the current and just wait for the bite. The enjoyment is incredible! Or we can reel in slowly until the fish bites. With all these methods, I can say that it would be hard to leave this place.
More fishing spots on the Sira River in Sirdal
The most interesting thing that impressed us is the place where the river flows into the lower Lundevatn lake, where the fish are almost absent. You might catch something, but it won’t be big fish. And just 1 km upstream, this incredible fishing with big fish begins. We really want to explore the lower lake, so we will dedicate some time to find out if there are big fish there or not.
Once again, we highly recommend visiting those 4 km between the two lakes, my friends. The nature there is also beautiful, and there are convenient places to park your cars and walk along the river up and down. There are camping spots or places for tents with public barbecues that you can use. There are also villas or apartments that you can rent.
Just 10 km in the opposite direction or to the south, you will find Flekkefjord, where you can also try successfully sea fishing. Happy fishing! 🎣
Thank you for visiting Norway fishing & nature!
We hope to see you again soon!
