Day 4 of our trip and on the road again. We couldn’t wait to keep discovering new places. We really wanted to visit Ålesund, a town located in the Møre og Romsdal county. Far north of Bergen, and only a 2.5 hours drive from Geiranger.
We definitely didn’t want to miss this opportunity to take a look at this romantic place. This city is famous for its architectural style called jugendstil or art nouveau. Open to the fjord system of Sunnmøre, it extends north to Ona and to the shores of Romsdal. The city is one of the largest ports in Norway, with a developed fishing industry and tourism. It is surrounded by fantastic mountains, nature and fjords.
We were fascinated when we arrived in Ålesund. A majestic look characterized the tall tower-like buildings, covered in beautiful decoration.
The city consists of several islands and it has the Atlantic Ocean to the west. We visited the historic Aalesunds Museum as well as Atlanterhavsparken. It is one of the largest aquariums in the world.
We walked around the city centre, and visited a restaurant to try the local cuisine.
Lastly, we spent some time fishing near Fiskerimuseet, located next to one of the popular lighthouses called Molja Fyr. If you have desire and ability, you can actually spend the night at the lighthouse. Yes, really. A famous hotel chain offers a luxurious overnight stay at the lighthouse.
Thank you for visiting Norway fishing & nature!
We hope to see you again soon!
