We travelled to Preikestolen, using the E39 road from Lillesand to Stavanger. Just before Sandnes we turned east on road 4496. It took us to Høgsfjorden and the branch to Lysefjorden from where we boarded the ferry to the north. We travelled for about 15 minutes to the opposite shore and were already in the territory of Rogaland. From there we headed on road 523 and continued north. After about 30 minutes we turned right following the signs. Unfortunately, the traffic was not great, but we drove slowly and after another 15-20 minutes we had parked and were preparing for the climb. We met a friendly family who seemed to want to climb the plateau together.
Climbing to Preikestolen
The path was quite steep at the beginning. Then it continued with a different level of ascent. The swamps in flat and damp places had paths made of wood so that no one would get wet. The Sherpas, specially invited for this reason, took part in the construction the steepest sections of the road. They had built stone stairs in many places. We were in no hurry, because of the beautiful views in some places. We saw a lot of signs and information. After some time, the road went flat, so we walked and met low bushes, small swamps, and lakes. At one point the plateau was suddenly in front of us, it looked closely but no, we had to climb further. Tired but curious, we continued. Incredible landscapes of the fjord below us have already begun to unfold from many places.
Wow! What a view!
We were on the edge of our strength when we reached the goal. Standing on the edge of a cliff of Preikestolen and looking down was crazy but not dangerous. In front of us was a beautiful view of all sides of the fjord. We had the feeling that we were flying. When you are standing there, you realize that it was worth the effort to climb.
Тhe great emotions had captivated us all together. We were satisfied and charged. After an hour of beautiful views in front of us, photos, and shared hot coffee and snacks, we slowly headed back.
Thank you for visiting Norway fishing & nature!
We hope to see you again soon!
