I started to genuinely enjoy fishing. The days during the summer are quite long here, as the sun is shining up to 22:00 a clock. I started spending more and more time in the nature, and really enjoyed fishing. Sometimes, even tired after whole day at work, I felt I needed to be close to the sea. There I really was feeling calmness and happiness.
Searching new places with a thought to catch other types of fish as well, not just mackerel, I moved constantly. One shiny day I was at the place called Vestre Vallesverd, located between Kristiansand and Lillesand.
Together with my brother we were trying to get some fish for about an hour and at suddenly he hooked something different, something big. It cost a lot of effort for him to bring the fish on the shore. It was a big, 2 kg pollock. I became a little bit jealous, but I kept throwing hard, and it didn’t take a long time before I hooked up one large pollock
We had already caught another fish besides mackerel. Our desire was to catch different types of fish. But it was almost a year after det we were fishing only mackerel and pollock 🙂 🙂 🙂
Mackerel is a strong fish and moves a lot, it rarely gives a chance to another fish. It feeds with small herring and is most active during the summer days of the year. It is very greedy and attacks almost anything which resembles a small fish. If you use a tinsel trace (several hooks tied at a distance) you can catch 4 or 5 fish at once. Mackerel can reach a weight of 2-3 kg, but is usually about 700 g. It moves extremely fast and is often in large flocks, so if there is a hook, it will catch it for sure. The young or small mackerel is called in Norway pir.
Thank you for visiting Norway fishing & nature!
We hope to see you again soon!
