Olashei is one of the small peaks, situated north of the town’s centre. Along the way we met different types of terrain, including diverse types of trees, lakes, rivers and swamps. Beautiful rocky terrain is common on norwegian grounds, including the terrain surrounding Lillesand. Here, it is possible to stumble upon beavers, moose, deer, and other wild animals. Along the way we went through an amazing pine forest and later learned that it was nearly 300 years old. That’s why the area is protected as a Olashei Nature Reserve.

When we reached the top a stunning view of Lillesand and the surrounding area was revealed to us. Along the way we met tourist signs that lead to other even more exciting places.
To access the trail, you have to drive north in the direction of Birkeland, via Møglestu. When you reach Møglestuhallen, turn right. There you can find a map with several tour suggestions. A large and convenient parking lot makes it so you don’t have to worry about where to park.
The trail itself
In the beginning, the path is passing a rectory and a large farmland with a barn. You have to pass them and follow the road under the highway E18. Then follow the hiking trail to the east (which is marked with red dots) and it will take you to the Olashei peak. On the way back you can turn right and choose a route over Sovehei to enjoy another beautiful view. After going a hundred meters towards Storemyr there is a sign pointing to the left up one steep hill with stairs to Sovehei. Just before a cairn at the top, turn left and follow the trail over the flat sections with bare mountains. This trail ends at the same crossroad where you took to the left on the way up. Now turn right and follow the path back to the rectory.
This route is about 6,2 km and takes about 2.5 hours.
