Dear friends, today we will talk about fishing rod selection.
It doesn’t matter what kind of fishing you practice here. Тhe information below will definitely be useful to you in fishing rod selection.
Both reels and rod are of great importance when making a choice. And here we have many manufacturers, companies and brands with different quality and indicators.
Fishing Rods Materials
Typical fishing rod materials are bamboo, fiberglass, graphite, carbon fiber, and composite. Boron and titanium alloy are new ones.
Fishing Rod Action
Here are following categories: ultra light, light, medium and heavy.
- Ultra light are rods that throw baits from 1 gr to 5 – 6 g. These are very light rods.
- Light is the variant from 3-4 g up to 12-15 g for the lures.
- The Medium category finds wide application. These rods with an average action of 5 to 27g. are a preferred rod. It is because we can use it in a wider range or is more versatile for different types of fishing.
- Heavy. These are heavy rods for larger and heavier fish with action 30g to 150g lures.
Fishing Rod Tapers
Fishing rod tapers indicate how much a fishing rod bends or flexes under pressure.
They are in 4 ranges or bending:
- Slow taper – when we shake the stick, it makes several shakes and stops. They start to bend from the handle, and being used for small fish.
- Moderate or medium is the second taper. It bends from the middle forward and can throw the bait quite a distance.
- Fast taper rods work or bend in their upper parts. They are sensitive, have quite a wide application and are used a lot.
- Extra fast are the last ones. They are very stiff and fast rods and bend quite a bit, literally at the tip. We use them to catch large fish.
Length
Another important thing is the choice of length. Here the factor is quite subjective depending on where you fish on the river, lake or sea. There are different opinions and everyone invests according to their experience and what they need.
Our advice is to contact the sales consultant before purchasing an item.
What we have learned with time and experience is also the importance of the rod handle. Now there are many variants and different finishes, but the best for us is to have the cork handle.
