Farsund and Lista lighthouse are located west of Kristiansand. The road initially runs along the E39 and after Mandal turns onto road 43. Only two kilometers after that is the pretty town of Lyngdal. The next day of our stay in Lindesnes we decided to visit Farsund and Lindesnes lighthouse. We went further along Lingdalsfjorden to the other town of Farsund.
Just before entering the center, we passed a beautiful curved bridge which connected the two coasts. On both sides we saw beautiful views, and in front of us appeared the town with picturesque architecture. It consists of islands, peninsulas and straits. The fjords here are also part of a nice sight.
The municipality of Farsund consists of three settlements, Frasund, Vanse and Vestbygda or Borhaug. Nearby is the Lista lighthouse, one of the major attractions.
Every year, a big American festival takes place in Vance. It marks the connection between the US and Norway and is held in the end of June.
Farsund Folk Festival is an international folk music festival in Farsun. The festival’s main focus is traditional music from the countries around the North Sea. It take place every last weekend in August.
We continue our journey in the direction of Vanse and Lista leighthouse. The distance between settlements here is not large. The vegetation is typical of the southwest Norway. We passed through the town center and turned left following the signs.
Lista Lighthouse
Lista Lighthouse itself used to consist of three separate lighthouses. Now there is only one left. Its height is 34 meters. The lighthouse also has a meteorological station. The landscape here is flat and this is the only stone tower here. It was built in 1853 with a stone fence. There is also a national center for observing migratory birds. We undersood that there have been a lot of changes here over the years. When the lighthouses were 3 it was considered the largest lighthouse in the world.
The weather was very windy that day and we did not want to climb to the top of the tower. But our impressions were wonderful. A little further inland, there is also a military airport.

Nordberg Fort
Nordberg Fort, the Nordic region’s best-preserved coastal fort from the Second World War, is a must – see in the area. Here you have a fantastic view of the Lista landscape. Nordberg fort was built by the German occupying power in 1942.
After the interesting tour in the are we headed back to Farsund and tried our luck at fishing 🙂
