Dear friends,
Today we will introduce you to a place called the Еnd of the World (Verdens Ende). The name comes from the tourist stream that often names this place that way.
On the way
Our journey started to the Еnd of the World from Arendal and headed north on the E 18 in direction to Oslo. We crossed the picturesque road again and saw a many beautiful breathtaking views.
We reached the sign for Tønsberg and we understand that we are close. It is one of the oldest cities in Norway. We follow the signs for Nøtterøy, a large island that connects the city with a bridge. The road twisted as if we were heading back. Then came the other island of Tjøme.
Tjøme
The bridge is connecting those two islands. Tjøme is smaller but very long. In fact, it is a very interesting archipelago of islands and narrow gorges that captivated us as we passed by. We traveled, impatience peaked and we had the feeling that we were really going to the end of the world. Finally we reached the parking lot, where we could park and walk.
This is a popular starting point at the end of the island.
The great infrastructure that was created really surprised oss. Toilets, sinks, bathrooms and everything necessary to refresh a person before walking on the paved alley that led to the sea. On the right side of the parking lot we saw a large sign Stall Verdens Ende. It was a small zoo and a horse base where you could ride horses.
The End of the World- Verdens Ende
The road was not long, and soon beautiful rounded rocks of the Skagerrak Sea were revealed to us. It was really the Еnd of the World. Slightly to the side we saw a pyramidal structure and realized that this is a tilting headlight. The people built it of stones collected from the beaches of the island. There was an old restaurant before, but now there is another building on its place. Rocky small islands connected to a large marina pier unfolded before us. A wonderful place for bathing and a platform for the disabled. There was also a barbecue, that one can use to make your day even more exciting.
We understood that the place was part of the Færder National Park. The whole park consists of 340 sq. km. including reefs, islands, the seabed of the municipality of Færder and extends from Ormøy all the way to the lighthouse Færder to the south.
We took a walk to get acquainted with the natural resources in the park. We saw plants and insects where they are almost non-existent, round swamps, stones and strange shapes, holes and other formations. It is also a popular place for boating, canoeing and other water sports. We learned that there are many good places to fish, but we were not prepared for that.
We also visited the national park senter where there is an exhibition, a nice restaurant and offices.
Scandic Havna Hotel
The Scandic Havna Hotel down the road is surrounded by beautiful nature and has a large marina in front. The hotel has a wonderful conference hall, restaurant and well-appointed accommodation. A really wonderful place for an excursion or a short vacation where you can enjoy many activities and attractions.
