Dear friends,
Today we would like to tell you about one of our previous, but extremely exciting trip.
We travelled to Hovden, a large ski resort located about 220 km north of Lillesand. This small mountain village is in the municipality of Bykle, Agder county. It is located in the northern part Setesdal valley, on the Norwegian National Road 9 and the river Otra. Its altitude is about 800m.
The place is extremely beautiful and worth visiting both in winter and summer.
Our goal was to spend the night in a villa we had rented, walk around the area the next day, and then continue to Lysebotn. In the warm mid-July weather, we would like to enjoy many natural landscapes and take lots of photos.
The road to Hovden and Lysebotn has an exceptionally beautiful scenery, characterized by heavily rugged terrain. The road to the ski centre was not that steep, we travelled and climbed gradually, before coming across many descents and ascents right before the final destination.
On the way we passed through beautiful lakes, rivers, waterfalls, and incredibly beautiful views. From Hovden we returned to Ristad, then following the signs we travelled west on road number 45.
After about 47 km we turned right on road number 4222 by following the signs, and after 32 km we reached the goal.
I will let the photos speak for themselves…
Lysebotn is a hard-to-reach place, the road to it was paved and opened as late as in 1984. Before that, the settlement could only be reached by boat. The name itself means the “bottom [end] of the Lysefjorden”.
The Øygardstøl restaurant and a large car park are located around 640 meters above sea level, with a great view of the fjord. About 310 meters higher is where the highest place on the road is situated and is called Andersvatn. During the winter period from May to the end of October the road is closed.
Thank you for visiting Norway fishing & nature!
We hope to see you again soon!
