Hello dear friends!
One of our last weekends was pretty exciting. I can’t wait to tell you. We had an unforgettable fishing weekend in Fyresdal. The emotion was huge! Here are the details! Enjøy!
Boy’s fishing weekend – trip to Fyresdal
The beginning of August came and the weather was perfect for the purpose. That’s why we had planned a trip to several lakes in Firesdal. Holmevatn was our goal. It is one of the bigest lakes there. We had wish to try three other smaller ones around it as well. Furthermore the plan was to spend the night in tents. The place is accessible by car. We were great team of four – me, Janos and his two teenagers, the boys Bence and Gergő. Bence hadn’t gone fishing in a long time. He had simply lost his motivation after a period of not being able to catch fish. Whereas lately Gergő has been catching almost every time.
Fishing weekend Day 1
After 3 hours drive we reached chosen camping poin and quickly parked the car. Without losing a time, we set off impatiently with the fishing rods towards the lake. And we were pleasantly surprised. The entire lake was accessible, surrounded by a path and you could throw everywhere.
Arrival and first throw
Even with the first cast, I hooked a nice trout, which unfortunately came off the hook at the end. The others supposedly had some pecking and pulling, but as a result after about two hours of fishing we only had one fish caught.
It was quite warm this afternoon and we had to look for places with currents. In a narrow place I noticed a nice current and cast, and only seconds later the rod started to vibrate. I caught a nice trout about 500 grams. We continued on, where there were more such places. Bence followed me the whole time. A light breeze appeared that formed waves. I cast from one cape upwind and hooked another trout. Bence moved to the other side where it was quite narrow and after a while I heard him joyfully shout that he had caught a fish too. I saw a glint in his eyes again. After 4 hours we had gone around the whole area and ended up at the car again.
Short afternoon break
We pitched our tents and decided to rest for a few hours before heading around the lake again. It was rather warm and derfor was better to fish in the evening. According to the information we had there were a lot of fish, and they were quite good.
At 9:30 p.m., we gathered and before leaving, Janos and I gave a small briefing to the boys. We told them that the bigger fish come to the shore in the evening because thеn they feel safer. It was necessary to keep quiet and cast near the shore.
By the lake again
Bence and I headed for the far end. I placed the boy in a promising place and I went a little further. After only 10 minutes, Bence came quietly to me and told me that he had caught a big fish. He was so happy with his catch of nearly 1 kilo. At the same time it got quite dark therefore we decided it would be better to continue fishing tomorrow morning. We already had one big trout caught by lucky Bence!
Fishing weekend Day 2
In the morning we headed to the other side where the closest lake of the other three was located. We split up in twos as Bence and I went to the left. But the lake on our side turned out to be shallow. We walked along a small overgrown path that went around the entire lake. I walked in front and constantly looked at my feet. I had a bad feeling.
An unexpected encounter with a viper
Somewhere in the middle I had taken another quick step when I looked down and saw a viper under my foot. Somehow I managed to avoid stepping on her.
I shouted to Bence to stop. He saw it too, but before we could get our phones out to take a picture of the snake, it got lost in the vegetation. Quite scared and with caution we continued. But only about 100 meters away, we came across a snake again, which sensed our approach and quickly hid from view. It was quite warm, but cloudy and drizzled occasionally. Interestingly, we met two vipers in a short time. That is why we decided not to take any more chances and headed for the car.
Happy at the end of the trip
Janos and Gergő had caught two nice fish from the deeper side of the lake.
However, Bence was the happiest. He said his motivation is back and he is looking forward to the next fishing trip. May be as early as next weekend! And that’s just great!
Thank you for visiting Norway fishing & nature!
We hope to see you again soon!
