Dear friends, Here is another story from the very recent past 🙂
It was a sunny and hot summer. We decided to take a litte vacation and to make a car trip from Lillesand through Oslo, Geilo to Bergen. Sara and I we took the E18 road and headed northeast to the capital. We had passed this way many times and we knew it well. This is a main artery that connects the capital with the southern part of the country.
Picturesque road as usual. Traveling, we meet a lot of water and beautiful nature, we pass through several large and remarkable bridges over the fjords where beautiful landscapes are revealed.
On the way we stopped through Tønsberg, an old town in Norway. We passed Drammen and arrived in Oslo.
Oslo
Here we walked around the center and visited the king’s palace. The new opera landed on the shores of the fjord with the idea of depicting a large glacier. We saw many historical monuments and passed the built in a typical northern style parliament building. Beautiful churches. Parks and forests covers a big part of the city and region.
We continued northwest to the Geilo ski center on the E7. It is located in Hol municipality.
Geilo
This is an alpine ski center that one can visit both in winter and in summer. The best Norwegian athletes keep in good shape here. Vestlia Resort is an amazing spa hotel with swimming pools and everything you need for a family holiday. In winter, in addition to the amazing tracks, you can also ride sledges pulled by dogs. We continue west through beautiful mountains and valleys and so we reach the beautiful Bergen.
Bergen
Perched on the coast of western Norway, the city is surrounded by beautiful mountains. It is famous with developed shipping and a strong economy. Here is the developed oil industry as well as a multifaceted business environment in almost all areas.
One of the characteristic things is the Bergen pier. Ancient preserved and well-maintained buildings find their place in the UNESCO list. We couldn’t help but visit Fløyen peak, which one can reach by a train. From there there is a beautiful view of the city and the fjord.
Here you will find many good playgrounds and paths for walking in beautiful nature. We also took a short cruise around the nearby fjords and passed through places with beautiful waterfalls and landscapes, that take your breath away. We did not forget to walk around the coastal bazaar with offers of fresh local fish products and also the very center of Bergen. Here we saw colourful and invigorating park with a lake.
We visited the Gamle Bergen Museum, a very old museum. Under Jorden Bryggens Museums is another museum worth to see. In the center itself we saw the monument Sjømannsmonumentet. We didn’t have time to go around everything, but we promised ourselves that we would come back again.
Thank you for your time, dear friends!
