Dear friends,
We have dedicated today’s post to the Norwegian winter. It started here and is in full swing now.
In recent years, not much snow has fallen here in southern Norway. The climate is very unpredictable. But of course sometimes winters are quite severe. However, only 20 kilometers inland and up to the mountains, there is usually a lot of snow.
Winter days in these latitudes are short on account of the nights which are rather long. The sun is very low and sets quickly. After all, we are close to the Arctic Circle. When it snows, even if not so much, it becomes bright and very pleasant outside.
Beauty of Norwegian winter
Sometimes temperatures drop from minus 7 to -15 degrees and if they stay that way for only a week, the fjords freeze.
A rather thick layer of ice is formed then and on sunny days you can see many kids and adults entering the ice quite coolly all the way to the middle of the fjord. It is a big pleasure for children to be on the ice with skates, to walk or play hockey, of course in front of their parents.
Winter sports and fishing
The same happens with lakes at lower altitudes, but they freeze earlier and faster. Almost every settlement has processed cross-country ski trails, which is typical for Norway. Nearby, only 50-100 km inland, there are alpine ski slopes. Not far from us are Vegårshei ski and activity, Bortelid and Ljosland ski senter resorts.
Fishing during the winter months is no less exciting.
Fishermen make holes in the ice and often return home with a good catch. There are some features of winter fishing that we will introduce to you at a later stage.
Many pleasant winter landscapes are formed and it is nice to be outside whenever you have the opportunity. 🙂 🙂
