Dear friends, It’s time for a walk again!
Hovden was calling us
One weekend Sara and I rented a villa in Hovden. We wanted to climb the Nonnutane peak that we had marked on the map. The area was quite interesting with 6 peaks at the top with more or less the same altitude located in a circle and surrounding a small lake. Of course, we chose only one of the six, which was on the near side of the main road.
Direction
From Hovden on road E9 direction Haukeli before the big descent. On the left we stopped at a small parking lot by the road. We continued west on a dirt road for cars. After about 1 km we deviate along a small path to the right which is marked and leads to the top.
Thе climbing
The weather was quite humid and drizzle. We felt a light northern breeze was also. The road meandered past several small villas, ponds, and swamps. It was quite slippery, and we were moving slowly. Our equipment was good for this kind of conditions. When the climb began, the weather worsened slightly, and the wind and rain intensified. We continued a little worried, but the climb was not difficult at least in the beginning.
The path became more and more invisible, but the red markings on the trees and stones helped us. We reached a small lake, that we had to go around, but the coastal rocks were very slippery. Sara walked slowly and carefully in front of me. After a while it started to get steep. We used trees and shrubs to help us climb. The wind was getting stronger, and the rain was spraying in our eyes. We did not give up and stubbornly continued with the thought of reaching the top. We were quite wet, but we did not feel cold because of our efforts and movements. At one point it became foggy and more and more difficult to find the marking. The rain almost stopped, but so did the wind.
Finally on the top
We were tired. We fell and got up more and more often. The fog kept us from seeing how far we had come. Worried that we might get lost, we continued in silence until we finally saw a metal tower on top of us. This proved to us that we had after all reached the goal. We sighed with relief. The rainy weather prevented us from enjoying the view that unfolded from above when it was clear. We couldn’t stay long. After we stopped moving it started to get cold. We took pictures as far as the fog allowed and went down satisfied that we managed to reach the top despite the difficult conditions. We descended slowly and carefully.
So we conquered another peak – Nonnutane!
Thank you for visiting Norway fishing & nature!
We hope to see you again soon!
