Year 2007. I was finally living and working in Norway. My brother and I we knew three others. We often got together for a chat and some beer. One of them was a fisherman, and he suggested we do some fishing.
Unfortunately, we didn’t have any fishing equipment. We decided to visit an outlet. We had no idea what exactly we were looking for. There we found some ready-made sets of rod, reel and fibre that were cheap and, according to the seller, universal for fishing. Without thinking a lot, we bought them. And so, armed with the new fishing rods, we went to the spot where we agreed to meet.
The Norwegian coasts are quite suitable for fishing. It is possible to fish almost everywhere.
The place we went to is near the mouth of the Otra River, close to the town of Kristiansand. There was a rule which did not allow fishing on about 100 meters from the riverside. Our friend explained that the reason is to prevent the extinction of the salmon. That fact didn’t really matter to us at the time. The most important thing was to enjoy the moment with the new rods.
He helped us tie a green lead fish weighing about 25 grams to the fibre and talked us through the technique. It was complicated and after my first throw I waited for the lure to sink. It started winding slowly and evenly as we were told.
And suddenly something pulled and began to resist. The excitement was indescribable at that moment. I began to wind up faster and was very nervous. I managed to get my first fish ashore, one good mackerel. By the end of the day, I already had four fishes in my bag, proud of my achievement. Something in me trembled.
Before we went home that evening, we agreed to repeat our achievement again next week.
Thank you for visiting Norway fishing & nature!
We hope to see you again soon!
