There are many popular places to visit in Norway. But there are a few that are so remarkably stunning that they are must- see destinations on our list. One of them is Preikestolen. A big challenge for older tourism lovers like us. This is a mountain plateau located on the north side of Lysefjorden in Sandnes and Strand municipalities, county in Rogaland. The plateau is almost flat and is at 604 m above sea level. With amazing views of the fjord.
The distance between the parking lot and the rock is about 4 km and the ascent takes about 2.5 hours in one direction. We recommend wearing appropriate hiking boots, but you can also wear sneakers if it is dry. The best season to visit is from the beginning of May to the end of September.
It is good to look at the sky before you leave. The weather forecast is a very important thing. It is good to ask the people who work in the information centre down in the parking lot if you are unsure about anything. It is also important to be in good physical shape.
In our opinion, the climb wasn’t necessarily difficult, but if the trip is planned in advance and you arrive at the parking lot a little earlier, it will be very useful. There are many visitors during summertime months, and you may often have to wait in line. We recommend that you leave for the top at 8:30 or 9:00 at the latest. This way you will be much calmer and you will have time to take pictures in places that are worth it.
In the next post we will share our experience.
Thank you for visiting Norway fishing & nature!
